Dear fellow Sudanese,

The Federation of Awiel Communities in Canada wishes to congratulate the people of the Sudan for the signing

of the historic peace which ended more than twenty-one years of hostility between the South and the North. As the

leaders of the Sudan and the international Community look ahead to the huge task of rebuilding the infrastructure of the country

and the rehabilitation of the peoples of the New South, we would like to seize this opportunity to express our thanks and gratitude and

salute the freedom fighters, the martyrs and the leadership of the SPLA/SPLM in the person of the commander in chief of the SPLA Dr. John Garang de Mabior

and his deputy Salva Kiir Mayardit, for their pursuit of true and just peace for the peoples of the New Sudan. By the same token,

we would like to recognize their determination and enthusiasm to spearhead and promote the rights of people to have autonomy and freedom of choice.

The essence of true leadership is service to the people. However, the capacity to watch over and protect the well-being of

others is an important talent that is exercised with great difficulty and patience. For it is one thing to see the situation that people are in, and it is

quite another to care enough about them. In this regard, the forthcoming era requires our oneness to participate in rebuilding our nation and

translate the outcomes of this peace agreement into meaningful deeds. Thank you.

Long live the people of the Sudan!

                                              Long live SPLA/SPLM!

                                              May God bless Sudan!

                                              Signed: Mr. Akuien Alor.

Chairperson of the Federation of Awiel communities in Canada
